Blessings for Sabbath observance
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work,
thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle,
nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and
rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed
the
Sabbath day, and hallowed it." Exo 20:8-11
We see here there is a blessing for observing the fourth
Commandment.
Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD:
whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout
their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever:
for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was
refreshed.
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai,
two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of
God. Exo 31:15-18
It is a sign that we are God's Child and He is our
Father.
"For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that
circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
But he is a Jew, which is one
inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the
spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." Rom 2:28+29
"Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of
man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his
hand from doing any evil.
Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying,
The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I
am a dry tree.
For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that
please me, and take hold of my covenant;"
Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better
than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name,
that shall not be cut off.
Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love
the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the Sabbath from
polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;" Isa 56:2-6
In the Bible the name frequently represents a person
Character. When their was a change in character a new name was given ( Jacob to
Israel and Saul to Paul). The blessing here is a
transformed character - New Birth.
Not earned but a free gift. ... "I will put my
laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God,
and they shall be to me a people:" Heb 8:10
If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day;
and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him,
not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee
to ride upon the high places of the earth, and
feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy
father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Isa 58:13-14
The Messiah is the Heritage of Jacob. Jesus Christ is
this heritage which will feed us. "I am the living bread
which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the
bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." John
6:51
"For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before
me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me,
saith the LORD." Isa 66:22-23
Sabbath will be observed in the new earth. The
Blessing will continue.
Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the Sabbath day,
nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, neither do ye any
work, but hallow ye the Sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.
But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they
might not hear, nor receive instruction.
And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in
no burden through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but hallow the Sabbath day,
to do no work therein;
Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes
sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their
princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall
remain
for ever.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and
from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south,
bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing
sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the Sabbath day, and not to bear a burden,
even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire
in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be
quenched." Jer 17:21-27
There is a blessing to a nation for Sabbath observance, and
a curse for violation. The reason the USA has and is currently blessed is because it
has protected the religious freedom
of those who follow all the Commandment of
God. This nation is blessed because of the presence of Sabbath Keepers. If this
nation should apostasies from it position of religious freedom, our national
blessing from God will depart. God bless America!
"For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day."
Mat 12:8
"And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he
went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read." Luke 4:16
Our Lord by Observing the Sabbath add a blessing to His
day. |
